JAMMU, Apr 26: Press Club of Jammu (PCJ) president Sanjeev Pargal has strongly condemned the attack on Dainik Jagran reporter Rakesh Sharma at Kathua recently and demanded immediate action by the police.
In a statement issued here, Pargal said he was briefed about the incident by senior journalists of Kathua district who said police haven’t taken any action in the attack so far despite registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
Asserting that Rakesh Sharma was doing his professional duty and was within his right to ask questions to the political leaders, the PCJ chief regretted that instead of responding to the questions Sharma was beaten-up leading to his hospitalization.
He expressed confidence that senior police officers will take note of the incident and direct the concerned authorities to initiate action in the matter failing which the journalists will have to adopt the agitational path.
