JAMMU, Apr 25: In a move to strengthen sanitation infrastructure and push Jammu closer to becoming an Open Defecation Free (ODF) city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner, Dr Devansh Yadav, today laid the foundation stone for a new public toilet complex near Hanuman Mandir in Ward No. 13.
As per a statement, the upcoming project is expected to provide better public hygiene facilities across the city.
It said the toilet complex will have eight toilets and two bathrooms and is one of 16 such units planned across Jammu at a total cost of around Rs 1.5 crore.
The location was selected keeping in view its high footfall, being close to a bus stand, Super Speciality Hospital, and the road leading to Jewel Chowk, the statement said.
The facility is expected to be a big relief for daily commuters, hospital visitors, and pilgrims, especially during the Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Officials said similar toilet complexes will also be built near other religious places to meet the needs of growing numbers of devotees.
“These steps aim to make sanitation facilities easily accessible and improve cleanliness across the city,” they said.
The JMC Commissioner was accompanied by Joint Commissioner Health and Sanitation, Abdul Sattar, Joint Commissioner Works, Firdos Ahmed Qazi, and the Executive Engineer of the Project Wing, Lokesh Gupta, during the visit.
