JAMMU, Apr 22: Cutting across party lines, political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir today strongly condemned the militant attack on tourists in Pahalgam that left multiple casualties.
Union Minister and PMO, Dr Jitendera Singh strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam.
“There can be nothing more cowardly than targeting innocent lives. My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones. We stand together, as a nation, in grief and in our unwavering resolve to defeat terrorism,” he said.
National Conference MP, Mian Altaf Ahmad has condemned the attack on tourists in Pahalgam area.
In a statement issued, Mian Altaf expressed anguish over the attack on tourists and termed it unfortunate and unacceptable.
“Deeply disturbed to hear about the attack on tourists in Pahalgam, praying for the speedy recovery of the injured ones in the incident “ the statement said.
Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyalson, LAHDC Leh also condemned the deadly terrorist attack and said that these attacks aim to disrupt the ongoing peace and progress process in Jammu and Kashmir.
He expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the incident, saying that the terrorists and others involved would be made to pay the price.
While condemning the terrorists’ attack on tourists in the Pahalgam district, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said it was an act of cowardice and was strongly reprehensible.
“People in J&K have been reviving the economic condition by the virtue of their hard work depending largely on tourism. But now the terrorists seem to be designing to defeat the tourism industry which the people of J&K would out rightly reject,” he added.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, stated that such violence was “unacceptable” and must be “denounced.”
“I strongly condemn the cowardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Such violence is unacceptable and must be denounced,” she wrote on ‘X’.
PDP leader Mehboob Beg has expressed shock and grief over the terrorist attack on a group of tourists in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam.
PDP leader Ilija Mufti said the act was highly unfortunate, noting that any act of violence has no place in J&K and demanded an inquiry.
MLA Handwara Sajad Lone also condemned the attack, stating that Kashmir has a history of hospitality, which, he said, terrorists want to destroy.
“Condemn strongly the dastardly and cowardly attack in Pahalgam. For decades we have been identified with being great hosts. We have a history of hospitality. And some cowardly terrorists want to destroy it all,” he wrote on ‘X’.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also denounced the attack, noting that such violence was unacceptable and against the ethos of Kashmir.
“Deeply disturbing news from Pahalgam of a cowardly attack on tourists that has resulted in tragic loss of life. Such violence is unacceptable and against the ethos of Kashmir which welcomes visitors with love and warmth. Condemn it strongly. Thoughts and prayers with the families of victims and wishing speedy recovery to the injured,” he wrote on his social media handles.
MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami called the incident “heart-wrenching,” carried out by those “who are not friends of humanity.”
“This place wants peace because we have seen a lot. We thought livelihoods had been created through tourism, but some elements do not want that. Whoever did this is not a friend of the Kashmiris or of humanity,” he said.
Sat Sharma, President, J&K BJP, strongly condemned the cowardly and barbaric terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
“Modi Government stands firm on its resolution to deal terrorism with iron fist. It practices zero tolerance policy for terrorism and swift retaliation is certain”, said Sat Sharma.
Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition, while condemning the attack, said that the tourists have been targeted in the Pahalgam area under the Anantnag District by the terrorists.
Ashok Koul also condemned the deadly terrorist attack and said that these attacks aim to disrupt the ongoing peace and progress process in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior BJP leader Ravinder Raina said, “Enemies of Kashmir have once again bleeded Kashmir by targeting the innocent tourists at Pehalgam Pakistani terrorists committed heinous crime and Sin.”
Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, has strongly condemned the attack.
Terming the attack as a shameful and barbaric act, he said that such incidents are a desperate attempt by Pakistan to disturb the hard-earned peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.
