Col Mahan inaugurates blacktopping of road

BASOHLI (Kathua), Apr 21: Aimed to improve rural connectivity in the hilly terrains of Kathua district, Col Mahan Singh (Retd), Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Kathua, today kick-started the blacktopping work on a vital 6-kilometer road stretch from Salad to Panagar via Preya.
The road is being constructed under PMGSY Phase III at an estimated cost of Rs 8.00 crore.
The newly constructed road will benefit over 5,000 residents of remote villages including Danni, Kadoth, Farnot, Preya, Mann, Sanki, Chaken and Panager, bringing much-needed connectivity to these long-neglected habitations.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Mahan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to PM Narendra Modi, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and the J&K UT Government for their unwavering commitment to the development of rural infrastructure.
He said, “The road will significantly improve access to health, education and markets for the people living in these isolated areas. 160 new road projects have been proposed recently across Kathua district, with a major focus on hilly and remote regions. These projects are expected to boost last-mile connectivity, transforming the quality of life in underserved areas and fostering overall regional development.”
Among others who were present during the event included Capt Harnam Singh, Darshan Badu (Social Activist), Ram Rattan, AEE PMGSY Deepak Kohli, Angrez Singh and Kartar Singh.
