KATHUA, Apr 21: Member Legislative Assembly, Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan today called on Excise Commissioner, J&K Subash Chhibber and discussed Excise related issues of the constituency with him.
The MLA expressed displeasure over the proposal of the Excise Department regarding opening of a liquor shop in Saraswati Vihar, Kathua which is in close proximity of Radha Swami Ashram, Gurudwara and four number of educational institutions besides being in a densely populated habitation.
Dr. Bhushan conveyed anguish and anger of the public over indiscriminate opening of wine shops, bars, restaurants & allied establishments in Kathua town and its rural areas.
He said that such establishments near schools, habitations and in close proximity of places of worship is a serious issue and the Government needs to have a re-look over its policy.
The youth need to be weaned away from drugs, liquor and other evils but the priority of the Government seems to increase revenue at the cost of human lives. This is worrisome.
Dr Bharat Bhushan urged the Excise Commissioner to respect the sentiments of local population of Kathua and nearby villages and avoid opening of such establishments.
The Excise Commissioner appreciated the genuine concern of MLA and assured to address the issue on priority.
