JAMMU, Apr 4: Maintaining that return of Kashmiri Pandits is not merely a logistical exercise but a deeply emotional and crucial matter, requiring utmost sensitivity, commitment and justice, Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), president, Kundan Kashmiri today said that the community has suffered immense pain, displacement, loss and any discussion about their return must be taken by showing genuine concern for their security, dignity and future.
Kundan Kashmiri, stated that Pandits have been victims of one of the most tragic episodes in India’s modern history. Genocide, ethnic cleansing, targeted massacres, destruction of homes and places of worship, forced land seizures, and distress sales under coercion have left deep wounds. Before any step towards return is taken, justice must be delivered, he added.
He said the crimes committed against this peace-loving community must be officially recognized, and a formal acknowledgment of their suffering must be made.
KPC urged the Government of India to pass a Genocide Bill in Parliament and a Kashmiri Pandit Rehabilitation Bill, ensuring that these atrocities are never forgotten and that those responsible are brought to justice.
KPC Chief further stated that the return of Kashmiri Pandits must be a collective, secure, and dignified process, ensuring that the community is rehabilitated in a single, well-protected location where they can rebuild their shattered lives without fear or persecution. Piecemeal efforts or the return to scattered areas cannot be considered true rehabilitation. It is imperative that the Government of India, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, and the leadership of displaced Kashmiri Pandits come together to formulate a structured, time-bound roadmap that guarantees a secure, sustainable, and honourable return.
Kashmiri while welcoming recent statement of LG Manoj Sinha that Union Government is committed to dignified return and rehabilitation of Pandits expressed the hope that concerns shown by the community will be taken into consideration.
