CB books 7 for Rs 1.32 cr frauds

JAMMU, Apr 3: The Crime Branch has registered five separate fraud cases against seven individuals, including the owner of a paramedical institute and a property dealer, for allegedly duping people of Rs 1.32 crore on various pretexts.
A Crime Branch official said that one of the cases involves one Irshad Ahmed, owner of a paramedical institute in Kunjwani, accused of cheating Amardeep Singh of Jammu of Rs 15 lakh.

According to him, Irshad allegedly promised jobs to three candidates and later issued fake appointment letters.
When the victims reported at the designated office, they discovered the orders were fraudulent, he said.
Despite demands, the accused refused to return the money, the Crime Branch official said.
He said, another accused, Piara Singh from R S Pura, allegedly duped one Karanjit Singh of Rs 8 lakh by falsely promising a work permit for his nephew in Australia.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch official said that two individuals identified as Gurjant Singh alias Bonny and Harsimran Singh, running an office named “Study Abroad” near National Hospital, Karan Bagh, were booked for defrauding one Gagandeep Singh of Rs 22.25 lakh.
They falsely assured him of a tourist visa to Australia, he said.
In another case, he said, a property dealer Rahul Dasgotra of Kotli Mian Fateh allegedly duped Dr Anjan Bhola of Rs 16.50 lakh, promising to purchase land near Bishnah.
However, the complainant later found out no such land was bought, and Dasgotra had similarly deceived others, he said.
The Crime Branch official said two Khairwood dealers, Parveen Kumar of Kahra Bali and Jitender Kumar Sharma of Sunderbani, also allegedly cheated one Dhian Chand from Himachal Pradesh of Rs 70.20 lakh.
According to him, they took the amount on the promise of supplying Khairwood but failed to deliver.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh confirmed the registration of five FIRs-numbers 17, 19, 20, 21, and 22 of 2025-at the Crime Branch Economic Offences Wing.
The senior police officer said that further investigations in all the cases are ongoing.
