Srinagar, Apr 3 : Police today arrested two persons who were fraudulently posing as Law enforcement officers to extort money from the general public.
Police said that on the complaint of one Mohammad Altaf Ganai, son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganai of Nageenpora Tral, they arrested two suspects Bashir Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Jamal Sheikh of Saimooh and Mohammad Shafi Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Dadsora for targeting unsuspecting citizens, falsely claiming to have police authority and demanding money under various pretexts.
“Their activities came to light after multiple complaints were received from victims who had been coerced into paying sums of money out of fear of legal consequences,” police said.
On this complaint, Police Tral registered a case FIR No.31 of 2025 under relavant laws and arrested the involved accused persons. “Both individuals are currently in custody and face multiple charges. Moreover, we urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. Legitimate officers never demand money from the public in any circumstances,” police said.
