JAMMU, Mar 22: Senior Citizens SS Club Chowadi, in collaboration with Amar Singh Club Jammu, organized an interactive session to promote Dogri, the native language of Duggar land. The event focused on the revival of Dogri and its original script, Takri, which has nearly vanished from use.
Dr Kasturi Lal, Chairman of the Senior Citizens Club, emphasized the necessity of incorporating Dogri into daily life. He highlighted efforts to restore Takri script by installing display boards in public places and institutions to enhance its visibility and instill pride among Dogras.
Maj Gen S K Sharma, president of the Club, welcomed guests and participants while outlining initiatives to engage students and faculty from colleges and universities in preserving Dogra culture.
Guest speaker Ashok Angurana urged people to take pride in their mother tongue and actively use it in daily communication, especially with younger generations. A renowned writer in Dogri, he reinforced the importance of language preservation through literature.
Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Transport Commissioner of J&K and the chief guest, lauded the Club’s efforts and stressed the need to introduce Dogri in schools to ensure future generations stay connected to their cultural heritage.
Anil Kapahi, general secretary of Amar Singh Club, expressed concern over the declining use of Dogri in homes and workplaces. He assured attendees that he would encourage club members to incorporate the language into their daily lives.
An interactive session followed, where attendees shared insights on promoting Maa Boli Dogri. Eminent personalities, including Padma Shri Mohan Singh Slathia, former Vice Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, and PhD scholars from the University of Jammu, contributed their views.
Dr Vijay Sharma, general secretary of the Senior Citizens Club, delivered the vote of thanks. The event concluded on a positive note, with a collective pledge to work towards the promotion of Dogri.
