SKUAST-J organizes ZREAC meeting for Kharif crops

JAMMU, June 10: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu organized a Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee (ZREAC) meeting with respect to Agriculture, Command Area Development, Horticulture and Floriculture under the chairmanship of Dr Pradeep K Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu.
Dr KS Risam, Director Extension SKUAST-J welcomed the chairman, distinguished guests and other participants in the meeting and highlighted the purpose of holding the ZREAC meeting for Kharif crops.
The Vice Chancellor in his key note address called upon the scientists of the University and the officers of the Line Departments to work for increasing the food security by increasing the production and productivity with the help of technologies available with the University.
He also called upon the University scientists and field functionaries to work in close tandem for the benefit of the farming community of the region.
He further hoped that the deliberations during the course of this meeting will go a long way in ameliorating the farmers’ problems and thereby making a significant step in improving agriculture scenario of the State.
Officers of the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture and CAD raised various issues regarding the intervention for off season vegetable production, standardization of spawning of milky mushroom and production technology for millets, concept of integrated horticulture, etc.
During the technical session, action taken report on the issues raised by the line departments during the ZREAC Kharif 2013 meeting was presented by the heads of the divisions of the University besides the production recommendations for incorporation into the package of practices of SKUAST-Jammu.
During the deliberations the officers of the line departments also gave valuable feedback of researchable issues to the University Scientists.
