SRINAGAR, Mar 13: Police today organized a Lok Darbar and Public Awareness Programme on New Criminal Laws in the Nowhatta area of Downtown Srinagar, drawing an unprecedented turnout, particularly among the youth.
A police spokesperson said the programme, organized by the North Zone Police, aimed to strengthen police-public cooperation and raise awareness about the newly introduced criminal laws designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in the justice system.
Addressing the gathering, SSP Srinagar emphasized the need to safeguard the hard-earned peace in Jammu and Kashmir through collective efforts of the police, security forces, and the community. Discussing the new criminal laws, the SSP said they are designed to ensure speedy justice and greater accountability within the justice system.
He noted that the government’s commitment to judicial reforms is reflected in continuous oversight from the Central Government and senior police formations.
The SSP also focused on combating drug abuse, stating that policing alone is insufficient and that a collective societal approach is needed. He assured residents of Srinagar Police’s commitment to eliminating drugs and ensuring a safe environment.
To improve public-police interaction and grievance redressal, Srinagar Police introduced new citizen-friendly initiatives, including: Appointment of Complaint & Grievance Redressal Officers in all city police stations and A QR code-based feedback system, allowing citizens to provide real-time input on police services.
Local residents praised police efforts in curbing drug abuse over the past year and used the platform to voice their concerns, which were promptly addressed by the police leadership.
