JAMMU, Mar 8: Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar has successfully conducted its first-ever revision total hip replacement surgery, marking a significant achievement in its orthopedic and joint replacement capabilities.
This groundbreaking procedure was performed under the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY scheme, making it entirely free of cost for the patient, who would have otherwise faced an expense of approximately Rs 3 lakhs in a private setup.
The patient, a 40-year-old male, had undergone a bipolar hip replacement of his left hip a decade ago and was experiencing severe pain and difficulty in walking for the past three years. Seeking relief, he consulted Dr Kanav Padha, Consultant Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon at the hospital. After a thorough assessment, Dr Padha recommended a revision total hip replacement due to implant wear and associated complications.
Specialized revision implants were used during the surgery to ensure long-term success. The procedure was performed by Dr Kanav Padha with support from Dr Sangeeta Singh and Dr Rimzim Raina (Anesthesia Team), and a skilled team including Jaswinder Singh (Head OT Technician) and OT Support Team.
Dr Hamid Zargar, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, acknowledged the efforts of the surgical team. He said this achievement underscores the Hospital’s growing expertise in complex orthopedic procedures and its commitment to delivering advanced healthcare solutions to the people of J&K.
