Former Mayor, Councillors concerned over increase in crime, corruption

JAMMU, Mar 4: Prominent ex-Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), irrespective of their political affiliations, here today, organised a meeting which was chaired by senior BJP leader and former Mayor, Rajinder Sharma.
Speakers in the meeting discussed vital issues being faced by the people of Jammu and expressed concern over the shattered work culture in JMC, increase in crime in the city, sudden rise in addiction among youth, corruption among government officials especially in Revenue and Mining Departments and other such vital issues.
They said that be it street lights, revenue collection, lanes and drains, garbage disposal, cleanliness and sanitation, water and power supply, building permissions, condition of graveyards, blockage clearance of sewerage pits in city, maintenance of crematoriums, menace of stray animals, hanging wires and damaged-tilted electric poles, there is no improvement and accountability since the tenure of JMC got over in November 2023.
“People are moving from pillar to post for getting the works done but no-one is paying any heed,” Rajinder Sharma said while addressing the meeting.
“After the abrogation of Article 370, the government led by PM Modi has brought in a lot of developments and changed the lives of people of the Union Territory as central schemes have been implemented here successfully by the administration led by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha,” he maintained adding: “But certain elements in the government are hell bent to sabotage the positive achievements of the government and LG led administration by resorting to red-tapism, corruption, having poor public connect etc.”
