Notorious drug peddler held with contraband on Ring Road

JAMMU, Feb 25: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police apprehended a notorious drug peddler at Ring Road, Kantwala, during a routine vehicle check.
The accused, identified as Shoket Ali, son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Kanger, Tehsil Bhalwal, Jammu, was intercepted while traveling in a Toyota vehicle (JK02AU-9945) from Jammu towards Bhalwal via Ring Road. Upon inspection of the vehicle, police recovered 1.54 kilograms of poppy straw and Rs 48,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
Following the seizure, an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway. Authorities confirmed that Shoket Ali is a repeated offender, previously arrested in 2022 by Nagrota Police Station in a similar case (FIR Number 151/2022 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act).
Police have intensified their efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region, with strict action being taken against repeated offenders involved in narcotics smuggling.
