“The proposed amendments are not in the interest of lawyers fraternity as such in whole of the country demonstrations are held”, said President of the Bar Association Nirmal Kotwal, adding “the amendments will give direct control to the Union Government over the autonomous institution and will deprive the lawyers of their right to lodge protest”.
Dubbing the proposed amendments as unconstitutional, undemocratic, authoritative and dictatorial, he said, “this move will undermine the independence of advocates and have tendency to dilute the institution”.
He said that in Jammu and Kashmir Bar Council has not been constituted till date and all the powers of Bar Council are being exercised by the High Court in blatant disregard to the judgment of the Supreme Court, which had directed for establishing Bar Council in J&K long time back.
