NEW DELHI, Feb 16: Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi, in association with the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), organized a cultural programme- ‘Duggar Malati’, showcasing the vibrant heritage of the Dogra community.
The event, which brought together people from diverse backgrounds, featured distinguished chief guest, Dr Karan Singh, former Union Minister and ex-Chancellor of JNU. His speech was a tribute to the heroic Dogra warriors who selflessly fought for the nation and extended the country’s boundaries.
The trustee of the Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi, Jitendra Singh Jamwal, mentioned that the Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, played a crucial role in making the event successful.
The cultural segment of the event was a vibrant display of Dogra folk music and dance. Renowned Dogri folk singer Subash Brahamanu and group presented Bhaakh titled “Sadde Hari Singh Raja Ji,” followed by a romantic Geetaddu. He later presented the lively song “Chalage Jammu Bazar,” before finishing with a specially composed Geetaddu in praise of the Dogra Samaj Trust Delhi and JNU students.
A dance performance was presented by Natya Roots Production, under the dance direction of Akash Dogra. The troupe performed a series of iconic Dogri dances, starting with “Dogren Di Kuddi,” followed by “Taren Tuddan Peiyaan,” “Kala Kala Kot,” and concluded with the traditional and powerful dance “Jaagarnaa.”
Mahira Tandon and Amaira Gupta presented dance items titled “Bolai Dogri Kuddi” and “Choodda Kun Kaddeya,” respectively. Mohit Garg performed a melodious Himachali song, adding to the rich cultural atmosphere.
Jitendra Singh Jamwal delighted the audience with a series of Dogri folk songs. He began with “Dogre O Dogri Da Maan Rakheo,” followed by the rare traditional Dogri folk song “Binna Lai Jogia.” On popular demand, he shifted the mood with an energetic dance number, “Billa,” and concluded with the crowd-pleasing “Mithhaddi Ai Dogren Di Boli.”
The program culminated with the felicitation of several distinguished personalities, including Dr Rajender Dhar (District Judge, Consumer Court Delhi ), Col Ranveer Jamwal (celebrity mountaineer), Randhir Kotwal (Senior Manager, J&K Bank), Dr S S Dogra (noted author and senior Journalist), and others.
The event was anchored by JNU students Stuti and Abhishek. Guests were treated to traditional Dogra delicacies such as Kaladdi-Kulcha, Kachalu, Patisa, Rajma Cholle, Meethe Chawal, Ambal, Anardana Chutney, etc.
