KUPWARA, Feb 11: In a major crackdown on narco-terrorism and the illegal drug trade, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara town attached two residential properties belonging to notorious drug smugglers from the Karnah area today.
As per a police official, the action was taken under Section 68A of the NDPS Act.
According to him, the first property belonged to one Zakir Hussain Shah, a resident of Takiya Bahadarkote, whose house was attached in connection with FIR number 78/2020.
The case includes charges under the NDPS Act, the Arms Act, and the UAPA after 5 kg of heroin, five pistols, and ammunition were seized from his possession, said the police official.
Investigations revealed that Shah used proceeds from his drug trafficking activities to build his home, he said.
The second property, according to him, belonging to one Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan of Chitterkote Karnah, was attached under FIR number 38/2022, which involved the recovery of 7 kg of heroin and two IEDs.
Khan, he said, is accused of using drug money to construct his house, thereby supporting the narco-terrorism network that threatens regional security.
Under the provisions of the NDPS Act, these properties cannot be sold or transferred without prior permission from the relevant authorities, said the police official.
