JAMMU, Feb 11: In order to promote Unani system of Medicine, Unani Day was celebrated, here today on the birth anniversary of Masih Ul Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan, for his great contribution in making this traditional system of Indian Medicine.
This day was celebrated with the theme, ‘Innovations in Unani Medicine for Integrative Health Solutions’.
To commemorate contributions of Hakeem Ajmal Khan, Directorate of Ayush J&K organized various activities across all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir division.
In this regard a function was held under the guidance of Dr Nuzhat Bashir, Director Ayush J&K and supervision of Dr Vandana Dogra Medical Superintendent, Govt Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu and Dr Aruna Bhat, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Raina, Assistant Director, Jammu presided over as chief guest in the program along with Dr Wahid Ul Hassan, Technical Officer, State Medicinal Plant Board.
Dr Aruna Bhat in her address highlighted the role of Unani Medicine in the public health and need of making traditional systems of medicines including Unani Medicine more approachable by common public using latest digital technology.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rakesh Kumar Raina, chief guest said, “We should get inspiration by the integrative initiatives of Hakeem Ajmal Khan, who established Tibia college of Ayurveda and Unani at Karol Bagh in New Delhi way back in 1911.”
Raina urged Unani fraternity to discover and rediscover Unani formulations based on principles of Unani systems of medicine to meet the emerging global health challenges and so that Unani medicine can play in achieving the holistic well being of the general public.
Dr Wahid Ul Hassan emphasized upon the research and development efforts of Directorate of Ayush J&K in promotion and propagation of this system of medicine and making it more evidence based.
A quiz program was also organized on the principles and practices of Unani Medicine wherein students participated in the program.
Four teams based on the basic humours of Unani i.e. Sauda, Safra, Balgam and Dam participated in the program. Team Sauda won the quiz activity.
On the occasion prizes were distributed among winning team by the dignitaries.
Many Unani Medical Officers from Jammu district along with Medical, Paramedical Staff, Interns and Under training pharmacists also participated in the program.
