JAMMU, Feb 10: Provincial president of National Conference (JKNC) for Jammu, Rattal Lal Gupta has said that unemployment has reached alarming situation in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
He was speaking while interacting with party functionaries from Gandoh in Bhadarwah constituency and Marwah area from Kishtwar constituency.
The party workers from Gandoh area were headed by constituency Incharge Sheikh Mehboob Iqbal, District president Qyoom Bagwan and ex- MLC Iqbal Batt from Marwah area were headed by Ghulam Mohd Malik. They apprised the senior functionaries about the hardships being faced by them due to causal approach adopted by the earlier government.
Citing alarming statistics from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the senior NC leader highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir has the highest unemployment rate in the country at 32% among youth, with female unemployment reaching a staggering 53.6%. He stated that these figures expose the dire employment crisis, with J&K becoming the epicenter of youth joblessness in India. The report further revealed that unemployment among job seekers aged 15-29 in urban areas of J&K is the highest in the nation, underscoring the urgent need for corrective measures.
Holding the previous government accountable for the employment crisis, Rattan Lal Gupta criticized its failure over the past decade in generating job opportunities and addressing economic stagnation. He emphasized that instead of focusing on employment generation, the previous administration remained indifferent to the plight of the youth, leading to an escalating crisis. He stated that the lack of concrete policies, poor industrial growth, and neglect of key employment-generating sectors like tourism and manufacturing worsened the situation, leaving the younger generation with bleak prospects.
Among those who were present included Shameem Ahmed, Nadeem Dar Mudassir Zargar, Haji Shah Din Sheikh, Mohd Asgar, Nehan Afzal Akhyar ud Din, Barket Ali, Rajinder Singh, Haq Nawaz Shar Mohd, Abdul and Mohd Ayoub Dar.
