JAMMU, Feb 7: Expressing disappointment over the Government’s alleged failure to respond by the February 7th deadline regarding crucial concerns on the existing reservation system, the Open Merit Students Association ( OMSA), J&K, today announced to have formulated a `Reservation Amendment Bill’ for ensuring fair opportunities for all.
“In light of the Government’s inaction, OMSA has taken a decisive step by formulating a comprehensive Reservation Amendment Bill 2025 after rigorous consultations with distinguished constitutional experts,” said leaders of the Association, while talking to media persons, here today.
Elaborating, they claimed that this Bill represents a balanced approach between meritocracy and affirmative action, ensuring fair opportunities for all while upholding the integrity of competitive selection processes. It has been carefully designed to preserve constitutional values, promote social justice, and create an equitable framework that benefits society as a whole, they added.
“OMSA believes that the proposed amendments will not only protect the interests of meritorious students but also ensure that affirmative action policies remain fair and effective in fostering inclusivity without compromising excellence,” said the students.
OMSA urged all Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to actively engage with the organization, thoroughly review the Bill’s provisions, and take the necessary steps for its presentation in the Assembly. The responsibility now lies with our representatives to address this critical issue and work towards legislative action that reflects both fairness and progress, they said and called upon the lawmakers to recognize the urgency of this matter and act in the best interests of students and society at large.
“OMSA remains committed to constructive dialogue and looks forward to the cooperation of all stakeholders in ensuring that this Bill receives the attention and consideration it rightfully deserves. The association stands ready to engage with policymakers, civil society, and other relevant entities to facilitate meaningful discussions and achieve a well-balanced and effective policy framework,” said the students.
