Ex-Servicemen briefed on HADP in Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 4: The Department of Agriculture Jammu organized a one-day orientation programme on the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) for Ex-Servicemen at Baba Jitto, Kisan Kendra, Talab Tillo, Jammu.
Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd), Chairman of JAK Ex-Servicemen Cooperative Store Ltd, attended as the chief guest, while the event was presided over by Arvinder Singh Reen, Director Agriculture Jammu.
Several distinguished officials, including Lt Gen Dr Rakesh Sharma (Retd) and Satish Sharma, Joint Director Agriculture, were also present.
The session aimed to introduce Ex-Servicemen to the HADP’s objectives, which focus on promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Raj Kumar, Technical Officer of HADP, gave a comprehensive presentation on the programme’s various initiatives designed to improve farming techniques and uplift agricultural communities.
Key topics discussed during the event included soil testing and the effective use of fertilizers, presented by Dr Aman Jyoti Sharma, Agriculture Chemist.
Rajesh Verma, Assistant Entomologist, spoke on the benefits of apiculture (beekeeping) under HADP Project No 6, while Kewal Sharma discussed the profitability of mushroom cultivation.
Director Agriculture Jammu, Arvinder Singh Reen, highlighted the advantages of high-tech polyhouses for better crop production and the growing importance of millets, which could lead to local processing opportunities.
He also emphasized the training available through the Daksh Kisan Portal to equip Ex-Servicemen with the necessary farming skills.
Maj Gen Jamwal encouraged Ex-Servicemen and their families to participate in HADP projects, stressing the programme’s potential to improve incomes and support self-sufficiency.
The event concluded with a strong call for Ex-Servicemen to seize the opportunities provided by the programme, promising a better future through active involvement in agriculture.
