Speaking to reporters here, Thakur condemned the recent attack in Kulgam, where an army soldier was killed, stating that terrorists have crossed all limits. “Attacking unarmed families like cowards shows that the frustration of terrorists has peaked. And Pakistan, which sends and supports these terrorists, is equally frustrated,” he said.
Thakur emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected Pakistan and its ideology of terrorism. “Today, the people of Jammu and Kashmir want peace and development,” he said.
He noted that in the last two elections, voters defied Pakistan’s ideology and participated in significant numbers. “Now, in this peaceful environment, after a long time, these terrorists attack like cowards, targeting families. This shows they want to send a message that they still exist,” he said.
Thakur asserted that terrorism in the region is dying out and the few remaining militants will also be eliminated. “A few are left, but they will meet the same fate as their commanders and predecessors. This does not mean that terrorists still hold ground here,” he said.
When asked about opposition parties accusing the National Conference of legitimizing the August 5 decision on Article 370, Thakur said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have accepted the move. “When the abrogation took place, not a single stone was thrown, no uprising occurred. Over time, people have seen and understood the immense development that followed,” he said.
He added that voter turnout after the abrogation of Article 370 proved public acceptance. “Had people opposed it, they would have boycotted the elections. Now that the people have accepted it, political parties must also come to terms with it,” he said.
On framing business rules, Thakur added that, as a Union Territory, Jammu and Kashmir must function under a uniform legal framework. “There are no two sets of laws here anymore,” he said.
