JAMMU, Feb 2: The Kashyap Sthal Development & Research Foundation (KSDRF) organized a Jyotishacharya Sammelan at Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, Amphalla, Jammu, to address the growing issue of delayed marriages within the Kashmiri Pandit (KP) community.
The event was attended by scholars, social activists, and community leaders, who discussed the alarming rise in late marriages and its potential impact on the community’s demographic stability.
The conference opened with a Deep Prajvalan, followed by a welcome address by Dr Pran Kaul, who highlighted the urgency of tackling the issue.
He warned that the declining fertility rate among Kashmiri Pandits poses a serious risk to the community’s future.

Dr Arvind Karwani, Commissioner, Relief & Rehabilitation, Jammu & Kashmir, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, spoke about the need for balancing cultural traditions with modern realities to preserve the Kashmiri Pandit lineage.
Awtar Krishan Jyotshi, the Guest of the Honour, pointed out astrological and societal factors contributing to the delays in marriages, urging the Government to take action to protect the community from demographic decline.
Padma Shri Dr K N Pandita, Patron of KSDRF, gave a keynote address on the evolution of marriage traditions among Kashmiri Pandits, emphasizing the importance of adapting to changing circumstances while preserving cultural practices.
He encouraged younger generations to prioritize timely marriages and discard unnecessary social and astrological barriers.
Key resolutions from the Sammelan included promoting flexibility in horoscope matching, reducing fears about astrological doshas, encouraging early marriages, and addressing the social stigma around late marriages.
Participants also called for community organizations to actively support matchmaking and awareness initiatives.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Ramesh Razdan, General Secretary of KSDRF, who urged attendees to take collective action in addressing these pressing concerns.
The Sammelan reinforced the need for the Kashmiri Pandit community to unite and adapt to secure its future.
