JAMMU, Jan 23: A delegation of Jammu Newspaper Editors Association (JNEA) headed by Ritesh Kapoor (Chief Editor, Daily The Excel Express) along with Ravinder Singh (Editor, First Reporter), Adarsh Pal Gupta (Editor, PP Newsline), Rajesh Dutta (Editor Dharti Times) and Vikul Gupta (Editor, State Analyst) today met Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Nasir Aslam Wani (Advisor to CM) and M Raju (Commissioner Secretary, Information & Public Relations) and apprised them with the challenges faced by print media.
The delegation outlined several key challenges facing print media outlets in the UT, emphasizing the significant economic constraints they are experiencing. Rising operational costs, declining advertising revenue and intense competition from digital media platforms have created a precarious situation for these outlets.
Additionally, the delegation highlighted the urgent need for a more supportive regulatory framework to foster the growth and sustainability of print media. To address these financial strains, a revision of rates is essential to mitigate losses, alongside a proposed adjustment to the advertisement ratio, increasing it from 1:3 to at least 1:7. This shift would help improve the financial viability of print media in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
The delegation urged the Deputy CM, Advisor to CM and the Commissioner Secretary to consider the Association’s proposals for addressing these challenges and promoting the growth of print media in the UT.
Speaking on the occasion, Ritesh Kapoor highlighted the significance of print media, which digital media cannot replicate while Adarsh Pal Gupta spoke about the revision of advertisement rate issued by Department of Information & Public Relations.
Ravinder Singh requested to consider increasing the advertisement ratio from 1:3 (One advertisement to three newspapers) to at least 1:7 (one advertisement to seven newspapers) to enhance the reach and sustain the newspapers.
Deputy Chief Minister, Advisor to Chief Minister and the Secretary Information Department gave a patient hearing to the burning issues and problems of the print media and assured the Association for early redressal of their genuine demands.
