JAMMU, Jan 23: As part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month, Transport Department and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) jointly launched an initiative to enhance road safety while promoting cleanliness.
A significant meeting was held today at the Transport Yard Narwal, chaired by JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav and Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan. The gathering included drivers of passenger vehicles, local citizens, and officials from both departments to discuss critical measures aimed at improving safety and hygiene in the transport sector.
During the meeting, Transport Commissioner underscored the importance of adhering to road safety protocols, emphasizing the need for drivers to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), avoid rash driving, and ensure their vehicles are fit for operation. He expressed concern over the litter generated by passengers and drivers.
To tackle this issue, small dustbins were distributed to passenger vehicle drivers for installation in their vehicles, encouraging them to inform passengers about the importance of using these bins instead of littering the roads. The Transport Commissioner also proposed installing large dustbins at bus stops. He also advised drivers for taking at least six hours of sleep to maintain alertness and minimize the risk of road accidents.
Meanwhile, JMC Commissioner Yadav highlighted a special operation focused on cleaning the Transport Yard Narwal, wherein tons of accumulated waste have been removed, with hundreds of trucks involved in transporting garbage away from the facility. Sanitation workers and garbage trucks have now been deployed to ensure routine cleanliness of the yard. He called upon drivers and business operators at the yard to ensure timely payments of monthly usage charges to support the sustainability of these initiatives.
Later, the JMC Commissioner and Transport Commissioner conducted a joint tour of Apsara Road and took first hand appraisal and follow up of the directions issued earlier with regard to parking arrangements there.
