SAMBA, Jan 20: District Legal Services Authority, Samba conducted first Under-Trial Review Committee meeting as per the schedule, which was launched by National Legal Services Authority for conducting UTRC meeting for the year 2025.
The main objective of launch of this schedule by NALSA is to enhance the efficacy and impact of the UTRC meetings by establishing a fixed quarterly schedule for UTRC meetings for the year 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Principal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman DLSA, Samba, Ravinder Nath Wattal, with the members of Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) Samba.
In the meeting, the Committee reviewed cases of eligible UTPs/Prisoners shortlisted by the Secretary, DLSA Samba for consideration. The committee considered 18 cases of UTPs/Prisoners out of which 3 cases were recommended for release and one was recommended to concerned court for appropriate action.
The meeting was attended by Sandeep Singh Sen, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Samba; Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Samba and G R Bhardwaj, Addl SP on behalf of Senior Superintendent of Police Samba. Besides these, Veerinder Bhat, Sr Superintendent, Central Jail Kot Bhalwal; Ram Avtar, Assistant Superintendent on behalf of Superintendent, District Jail Kathua and Harish Kotwal, Superintendent District Jail Amphalla, Jammu joined the meeting through virtual mode and also Legal Aid Defence Counsels attended the meeting.
