Srinagar, Jan 17: A private diagnostic center has claimed it offers Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans at rates comparable to those at SKIMS, Soura.
In an advertisement, the center claimed to provide PET scans for Rs 18,000, stating it was “at par with SKIMS, Soura.”
The advertisement read: “As a heartfelt tribute to our beloved mother, we are offering a special reduction in PET CT scan rates… Rs 18,000/- only… at par with SKIMS.”
However, authorities at SKIMS have refuted this claim, clarifying that their standard rate for PET scans is Rs 14,500, with further concessions for economically weaker patients.
“Total PET charges at SKIMS are Rs 14,500 only, out of which Rs 4,500 are exempted for poor patients. The total charges for poor patients amount to Rs 10,000,” SKIMS officials told Excelsior.
It is pertinent to mention that the standard rates for PET scans were recently fixed by the Government to prevent exploitation.
SKIMS remains the only Government hospital in Kashmir equipped with a PET scan machine.
Meanwhile, the public has urged authorities to take action against such misleading practices aimed at exploiting people, especially the poor.
