JAMMU, Jan 16: Community Participation (CP) workers, land donors and cooks working in Jal Shakti, Education and some other departments observed strike and held protest demonstration here today.
Led by senior members of the Union, these workers, land donors, cooks are working hard in Govt Schools performing different non-teaching tasks including watch and ward, sweeping, preparation of mid-day meals, maintaining cleanliness in schools, these people assembled near Press Club of Jammu and staged protest demonstration.
They were carrying banner and some placards depicting their demands and shouting slogans in support of their issues. They were demanding their regularization and enhancement of wages. They alleged that they are facing worst kind of exploitation at the hands of the Government agencies and the officials concerned but in turn are getting very less wages and that too not regularly.
“We have been continually deceived by Education Department for the last ten years in the name of implementation of minimum wages and every authority from institutional level to apex administrative level have kept us utilized with their false words and promises. No wages have been given to us till date. Though the Department of Education is putting our demand of minimum wages in budget for last few years, the Finance Department has deliberately kept us deprived of our genuine rights. They have put about 10,000 poor families or about 50,000 souls to suffer,” they asserted.
“It has been unanimously decided by the Union that `No Pay, No work’ will be observed from Feb 28, 2025 and all the CPWs including land donors and cooks will abstain from their duties. If wages are not given within one week’s time, the program will be followed by hunger strike and restrictions of Union representatives to land donors will also get lifted,” they cautioned.
They requested the teachers community to provide their support and co-operation to the protest program of CPWs and cooks’. If schools’ functioning are affected they will not be responsible for it, they warned.
