JAMMU, Jan 6: In a first of its kind initiative, the alumni, present and ex-faculty of GMC Jammu joined hands together to form “Friends of GMC Jammu” Society which has been now formally registered with Registrar of Societies.
“The idea of this long-awaited association was conceived by the Principal & Dean of GMC Jammu Dr Ashutosh Gupta who invited the founding members of the Association which includes former and present faculty and the alumni of GMC Jammu to join this collective initiative in the best interest of patients care, students and the faculty members,” said Dr TR Raina, Chairperson of the Society while addressing a press conference here today.
Dr Raina said that the Society will function as a formal forum for the former and present faculty and the alumni of GMC Jammu to interact amongst themselves and also with the administration, present faculty and work as a catalyst to promote exchange of ideas and expertise between them and other organizations for the benefit of patients and society at large. He announced that they have lined up a series of educational and outreach activities in association with various stakeholders starting this month.
Dr Dushyant Choudhary, secretary of the Society, elaborated the vision of the Association to have merit cum means based scholarships for the needy and deserving students of the College, contribute/facilitate for the welfare of the students, faculty members and patient care, undertake activities such as career counselling, medical check-up camps and other similar programs for the benefit of the general public.
Dr Sandeep Dogra (joint secretary) invited and welcomed other NGOs, associations and networks to join hands with the Association to promote and facilitate collaborative research projects between GMC Jammu and other institutions in India and abroad.
Other members of the Association present were ex-HoD CTVS GMC Jammu Dr Gurjeet Singh, Principal GMC Doda Dr Rakesh Bahl and Dr Shelly Gupta from DHS.
