RAMBAN, Dec 25: Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Gool Ramban organized one-day employees’ convention in Gool, marking a major step in the ongoing advocacy for workers’ welfare.
The event was graced by Dr Shamshada Shan, chairperson of the District Development Council (DDC) Ramban, who attended the convention as chief guest. The Convention was led by Jalil Ahmed Sheikh (tehsil president, EJAC Gool) and Fyaz Ahmed Mir (district president, EJAC Ramban), attracting a large number of employees from various regional associations.
The gathering saw EJAC leaders presenting a comprehensive charter of demands to Dr Shan, which highlighted several long-standing issues faced by employees in Gool and the wider Ramban district. Key demands included the regularization of daily wagers and implementation of the Minimum Wage Act, as well as the regularization of Rehbar-e-Khel and Rehbar-e-Jangalat employees who have completed their tenure.
Additionally, the Convention called for the adoption of service by-laws for NHM employees similar to those in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and improved job security for Anganwadi workers, seasonal teachers, and ASHA workers.
Other prominent demands included the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to replace the New Pension Scheme (NPS), along with measures to improve conditions for NYC and MGNREGA employees. The convention also sought the construction of a Teachers’ Bhawan in Gool and the creation of a separate educational zone for Block Sangaldan to improve administrative efficiency.
Dr Shamshada Shan assured the attendees that their concerns would be raised at the highest levels, including with the Chief Minister, for prompt resolution. EJAC leaders reiterated their commitment to fighting for employees’ rights, under the leadership of president Wajahat Hussain Durrani and provincial president Jammu Sheikh Mohammad Ashraf.
The convention concluded with renewed determination to continue advocating for the welfare and justice of employees in the region.
