DODA, Dec 16: Fire erupted in a forest here today prompting the personnel of the Forest Department for an operation to douse the blaze.
Sources informed that fire erupted in Compartment number 1 of Jai 1 Block, located in Dhadkai area of Gandoh.
They said that Forest Department promptly responded and deployed a team of 20 personnel including Forest Protection Force men to the spot.
Sandeep Kumar, Conservator of Forest for Chenab Circle informed that the current dry weather conditions have led to an increase in forest fire incidents.
“The fire, which emerged on a cliff region, is currently being fought by the Forest Department and within hours it can be doused,” he informed adding: “As precautionary measure, special teams have been formed across the entire Circle and Divisional Forest Officers have been instructed to maintain a state of readiness.” Kumar further said that fire watchers have been positioned at divisional level to provide additional support to the frontline staff.
