KATHUA, Dec 13: Two suspected drug peddlers, including a woman, were detained under stringent the NDPS Act in Kathua district, police said today.
Gurnam Singh alias Katta of Chak Drab Khan and Asha Bibi of Khanpur-Marheen were habitual drug peddlers and their detention warrants under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu to prevent their illegal activities, a police spokesperson said.
While Singh was named in four FIRs registered under the NDPS Act at Kathua Police Station since 2021, Bibi was wanted in connection with two FIRs lodged at Rajbagh Police Station since 2023.
Both have been lodged in the Central Jail at Kot Bhalwal in Jammu, the police said.
The arrest was made by Kathua police under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua. Police said both are hardcore drug peddlers who were involved in possession and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in different NDPS cases at PS Kathua and PS Rajbagh.
In the first instance, a Police team led by Inspector, Ajay Singh Chib SHO PS Kathua under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua, Manjeet Singh apprehended one drug peddler namely Gurnam Singh alias Katta, son of Bui Lal of Chak Drab Khan Kathua who is involved in possession and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in different NDPS cases at PS Kathua vide FIR Nos 19/2021 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS ACT, FIR No. 233/2021 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act, FIR No. 146/2023 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act and FIR No. 11/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act respectively.
While in the second instance, a police team led by Inspector Rajeshwar Slathia SHO, PS Rajbagh assisted by Incharge PP Marheen, PSI Ravinder Singh under the supervision of SDPO Border, Dheeraj Singh Katoch apprehended one lady drug peddler/habitual smuggler/criminal namely Asha Bibi wife of Mohammed Sadiq of Khanpur, tehsil Marheen, district Kathua who is involved in possession and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in different NDPS Cases at PS Rajbagh vide FIR No’s 294/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS & FIR No. 104/2024 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS respectively.
