Another youth booked under PSA, protests in Baramulla

SRINAGAR, May 14: Police today booked a youth from Baramulla town under Public Safety Act (PSA) on charges of stone pelting, bringing the number of youth booked under PSA since Parliamentary elections to three.
Zahoor Ahmed Mala, son of Bashir Ahmed, resident of Old Town Baramulla was arrested by police on the charges of stone-pelting on April 27 last month and he was booked under PSA and shifted to Sub-Jail Kupwara today.
Zahoor was first arrested in 2010 on the charges of stone-pelting under FIR number 36/2010 in Police Station Baramulla. He is facing charges under Sections 148, 149, 332, 336, 307, 427 of RPC.
At least one dozen cases have been registered against Zahoor in different police stations for his alleged involvement in stone-pelting, arson, damaging public property and attack on police personnel.
Zahoor’s family refuted police claims and protested outside Police Station Baramulla today. The mother of the accused Zoona Begum said that his son was bailed out by court on April 27, but police re-arrested him on the same day and implicated him in another case.
Scores of women including mother of Zahoor Ahmad blocked the Highway near Police Station Baramulla demanding release of their wards.
In the meantime, police have told the parents of accused stone pelters that those who surrender before the police will be dealt under law but they won’t be booked under PSA.
A police source said that one of the stone pelters today surrendered before the police in Baramulla after his father was summoned to Police Station Baramulla. His father was told by police that his son will be booked under PSA if he fails to surrender. His son, however, late surrendered before the police.
Around 20 youth were arrested in Baramulla after May 7 polls on charges of stone pelting. And Police today arrested several youth in North and South Kashmir including a most wanted stone pelter nick named as Chota Geelani.
Police in Shopian police arrested Faisal Amin Mir alias Chotta Geelani after a tip off about his presence in the house of a relative. Police raided the house and arrested Faisal from Gagran area of Shopian today. Faisal is most wanted in the police records and was evading arrest for the past few months.
