SRINAGAR, Dec 4: The Central Enforcement Wing of the State Taxes Department in Kashmir has reached a significant milestone in the financial year 2024-2025, imposing penalties totaling Rs. 1.41 crore for tax violations.
A spokesperson for the department said that, as part of round-the-clock enforcement activities across the three districts of Central Kashmir, over three lakh e-way bills were verified. This marks a 27% increase compared to the same period in the previous financial year (2023-2024) from April to November. “A significant increase has been observed, particularly since September 2024. In September, the increase was 50%, while in October and November, it was 113% and 24%, respectively, compared to the previous year,” he said. He added that penalties have been levied on traders who were found transporting goods in violation of the GST Act and Rules.
He said that the enforcement drives were led by Deputy Commissioner of State Taxes Enforcement, Central Kashmir, Waseem Raja, under the supervision of Commissioner of State Taxes, P K Bhat.
The spokesperson said round-the-clock enforcement activities were conducted by three teams across the districts of Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Budgam, under the supervision of State Taxes officers Aijaz Ahmad Wani, Abdul Shakoor Malik, and Sanjeev Gupta, with support from other field staff, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and guards.
“The team at Srinagar Airport, led by STO Irshad Asadullah, has achieved significant success by imposing substantial penalties on tax defaulters. High-risk commodities such as metal, scrap, cement, marble, plywood, timber, and TMT bars were targeted during these drives,” he said.
