KATRA, Dec 1: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti today threatened to resume its protests against proposed Ropeway Project from Tarakot to Saanji Chhat if no positive action is taken on their demand.
A massive public meeting was organized by the Samiti at Shalimar Park in Katra wherein hundreds of local residents and representatives from surrounding villages assembled for registering opposition to the proposed Tarakote Ropeway Project.
The gathering, attended by individuals across party lines and representatives from various business associations, strongly condemned the Shrine Board’s decision to install the ropeway. The committee members said that the proposed project is a potential threat to the livelihood of thousands of local dependents.
In a unanimous decision, the attendees resolved that ropeway must not be installed in or around Katra. The Samiti announced that it would wait until December 15 for the administration to roll back the project. If this does not happen, the Samiti, backed by the local community, will launch a stronger agitation to protect livelihood of locals, announced the leaders.
The members said that they were committed to safeguard the employment opportunities of thousands of residents who rely on the traditional pilgrimage routes and associated businesses.
