RAJOURI, Nov 30: The Indian Army organized an ex-Servicemen rally at Lam in Nowshera, showcasing its commitment to the welfare of veterans, Veer Naris and their families.
The event commenced with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Shaheedgarh War Memorial by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), honouring soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The rally brought together over 486 participants, including ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and dependents. It served as a platform to address grievances and disseminate information about various Welfare Schemes. Assistance booths were established to resolve pension issues, update service records and provide guidance on accessing benefits.
Representatives from civil administration and banks further streamlined the process. A significant highlight of the rally was the felicitation of Veer Naris, gallantry awardees, and revered gallant civilians.
Among them were Basant Singh, who fought as a Bal Sainik under Mohd Usman during the 1947-48 Indo-Pak War to counter the Pakistani Army, and Bachittar Singh, SC, who heroically killed a terrorist in 2000 in Qila Darhal as a member of (VDC).
These women, who endured immense personal loss, were honoured with mementoes and heartfelt words of appreciation, acknowledging their resilience and invaluable contribution to the nation. Similarly, the gallantry awardees and civilians were celebrated for their extraordinary valour and service, reinforcing the Army’s tradition of recognizing and respecting its heroes.
The rally also featured a medical camp staffed by Army doctors, providing free consultations and distributing essential medicines. Cultural performances by local students added a vibrant and engaging atmosphere to the event.
In his address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) expressed gratitude to the veterans and their families for their sacrifices, emphasizing the Army’s unwavering support for them. He highlighted that such initiatives strengthen the bond between the Army and its ex-Servicemen, ensuring their welfare and honouring their legacy. The rally stood as a testament to the Army’s dedication to its veteran community, demonstrating respect, gratitude, and an enduring commitment to their well-being.
