RAMBAN, Nov 25: The unemployed-skilled and unskilled, youth of Ramban here today staged a protest demonstration against the contractor companies engaged by NHAI for not absorbing them in the ongoing Maroog-Digdool tunnel project between Ramban and Banihal.
A large number of educated unemployed youth from Ramban, Maroog, Gam, Seri, Digdool, Ramsu and Kelamorh assembled at Maroog and staged a protest demonstration demanding jobs in Maroog-Digdool tunnel project.
The protesters claimed that the sub-contractor companies were importing manpower from outside J&K thereby messing with the local youth.
One of these companies, Kubeera Project Limited (KPL) has terminated all its employees citing flimsy reason on October 15, 2024. Later on KPL was also terminated by the main contactor company TaTa in the month of November 2024.
The protesters were demanding transparent methods from the contractor companies in providing jobs on Digdool-Maroog tunnel works.
A political leader Suraj Singh said that a few days ago contractor companies engaged outsiders as workers, labourers and security guards by ignoring local unemployed youths.
One of the protester said that MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju and other political leaders have assured them that in the projects under execution by central government, local talent would be preferred but this has not happened.
The protesters have appealed Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Basser Ul Haq Choudhary to intervene.
