Upgrading teaching standard

Sir,
Apropos news item-Governor for the sustained endeavour to upgrade the standard of  teaching and research (D.E. April 12, 2014) it is heartening to know that the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir State, N N Vohra has shown keen interest in the system of education in the State.
He has rightly advised to put in sustained efforts to upgrade the standards of teaching in Universities, Colleges, Hr Sec. Schools and Schools of the State. It is high time, civil society takes keen interest in the education of their wards in educational institutions rather than spending money on private tuitions which has become the fashion of the day and a deterimental factor for failure of education system.
The research should be relevant to the industrial requirements  and allied fields rather than a futile exercise to earn a Ph.D degree only.
Let the  teacher be accountable towards the knowledge acquired by his/her student and also the personality development of the youth. Let the authorities of Education Deptt. rise to the occasion and put the beleaguered system back on track.
Yours etc…
A Singh
