JAMMU, Nov 18: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in Jammu district has successfully uncovered and resolved a financial fraud worth Rs 4,45,999.
A Cyber Cell official said that the incident was reported on November 10, 2024, after the victim discovered unauthorized transactions from their bank account.
According to him, the victim received a malware-laden APK file on November 1, 2024, which appeared to be from an untrustworthy source.
“Inadvertently, the victim downloaded and opened the file, which led to the hacking of their mobile device. The hacker gained access to the victim’s bank details and transferred Rs 4,45,999 from their account,” said the Cyber Cell official.
Upon learning of the fraud, he said, the victim approached the Cyber Cell of Jammu Police on November 10.
“The Cyber Cell acted swiftly, launching an investigation into the matter. Within a short time, the team was able to halt Rs 4,26,000 of the transferred amount, preventing further fraudulent transactions,” he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have praised the Cyber Cell for its quick response and professional handling of the case, highlighting the department’s ability to use advanced technology and skilled personnel to assist the public.
