JammuPex-2024: Two days philately exhibition inaugurated

JAMMU, Nov 13: JammuPex-2024, two days philately exhibition showcasing history and cultural heritage of Jammu through postal stamps was inaugurated here today.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Suresh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Culture and School Education Department (SED), Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
Principal GGM Science College, Professor Ramesh Gupta was guest of honour, while Madhukar Jhingan noted philatelist of the country was special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Kumar Gupta praised the Department of Posts for hosting the exhibition depicting the rich history of Jammu.
He referred philately as an interesting hobby to know the cultural heritage of the country.
“The New Education Policy, as envisioned by the Prime Minister of India emphasizes on the overall development of a child. Children should adopt hobby of learning things in order to overcome stress and tension,” he said and described Philately as one of such hobbies.
Director Postal Services, Prateek also spoke on the occasion and described Philately as Hobby of Kings and King of all Hobbies.
“India Post through time to time is introducing stamps, special covers etc related to events, monuments and eminent personalities thus playing its role in preserving the history,” he added.
Principal GGM Science College, Prof Ramesh Gupta and Madhukar Jhingan noted philatelist also spoke on the occasion.
The event witnessed stamp designing, quiz competition and workshop by eminent philatelists for the students.
A special cover on the GGM Science College was also released on the occasion.
Large number of students drawn from different schools of the Jammu district, people from different walks of life participated in the event.
More than 5000 rare and varied stamps issued in India and in other countries have been put for display at the exhibition. Some of these stamps are from the colonial period.
The India Post is also exhibiting over 30 postal stamps issued on Jammu and Kashmir.
