JAMMU, Oct 22: Thousands of people including serving as well as former Ministers and senior police officers today paid their last respects to Engineer Shashi Abrol, who was among the seven people shot dead by the terrorists on Sunday evening in Gagangeer area of Ganderbal district.

Among the attendees were Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Minister for Agriculture Production Department (APD) Javed Ahmed Dar, Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore, Senior BJP leader Sukhnandan Choudhary, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh and several functionaries of BJP and National Conference.
The cremation held at Shakti Nagar Cremation Ground. Amid religious rituals, family members, relatives, neighbours and friends of Shashi Abrol bid adieu to him with wet eyes. The pyre was lit by Shashi Abrol’s son Ishan, a first-year engineering student. Besides Ishan, Shashi is survived by his wife Ruchi, a three-year-old daughter and his parents.
Shashi Abrol, an architectural designer, was one of the seven employees of APCO Infratech who were killed when terrorists attacked a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway on Sunday. Unidentified terrorists carried out the attack after the construction company staff had returned to their camp late in the evening. Abrol had been working for the construction company in Sonamarg for six years.
“I have come here to express my condolences to the family and share their grief. The Government will do everything possible to provide relief to the family,” the Deputy Chief Minister, who was accompanied by APS Minister Javed Ahmed Dar, said.
The Deputy CM and the APD Minister also met with father and other family members of the deceased and assured them all support from the J&K Government. They said that all their grievances would be addressed on priority basis. They also assured the bereaved family that the issue of providing compensation and Government job to the next of kin of the deceased will be taken up with the concerned authorities.
While speaking with the media persons, Surinder Kumar Choudhary said that the Government is committed to prevent these types of incidents besides focusing on maintaining peace and brotherhood in the region.
