National Malaria Day observed

JAMMU, Apr 25: National Malaria Day was observed with fervour and zeal.
To observe World Malaria Day, a Rath Yatra with the theme for this year “Invest in the future, Defeat Malaria” was flagged off today by the Deputy Director (HQ) Health Services Jammu Javed Akhtar Chib in the premises of Directorate of Health Services Jammu. The Rath Yatra was organized by State Malariologist Dr Gurjeet Singh.  Dr Arvind Raina, Assistant Director Schemes, Dr Preetam Katoch, Assistant Director Health Education Bureau, Dr Shamim Mir, Controller of Stores, Jammu, Dr. Rajeshwar Sharma, Medical Officer Stores, Dr Saroj Kotwal Zonal Leprosy Officer Jammu, Dr Sanjay Turki District Health Officer, Jammu were among other senior officers/officials of the Health Department  present on the occasion. The motive of this Rath Yatra was to make the public aware of the preventive measures to be adopted for the control of malaria. Dr Javed Akhtar Chib asked the public to adopt the simple preventive measures viz keeping the surrounding clean, to wear clothes that cover the whole body, to use mosquito repellents. Rath Yatra passed through the different areas of the Jammu city.
A symposium was organised to observe National Malaria Day in District Hospital Udhampur which was organised by Superintendent of the hospital Dr Chander Parkash. On the occasion, Chief Medical Officer Dr Arun Sharma was the chief guest. A large number of students of ANMT School Udhampur, Paramedical students including the students of Glorious Night Angle Institute participated. Dr Chander Parkash, Deputy Superintendent Dr Deepak Kumar and Dr Arun Sharma delivered valuable and knowledgeable lectures.
National Malaria Day was observed at ANMT School, Poonch. Dr SC Raina, Former-State Malariologist was the chief guest, who along with Dr Mumtaz Hussain Bhatti, CMO Poonch, Dr Mushtaq Hussain, District Tuberculosis Officer Poonch, Dr Ruby Bhatti MO DTC, students of ANMT School besides many others expressed their views highlighting the importance of the day. Prizes were distributed among the participating students.
Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan in coordination with Ek Sath Rang Mandal observed World Malaria Day at Durga Bhawan, Janipur. The programme was inaugurated by former Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur Dr Tara Singh Charak as chief guest and VK Magotra, former Regional Director of Directorate of Field Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presided over the function. Awareness items, skits, songs and dances were presented to aware the masses. Theme wise contents to promote love and peace as advocated by the stalwarts of Theatre, National Unity and Communal Harmony, Indian Democracy Health etc were the main   highlights of the cultural programme presented by renowned artists of the State namely KL Verma, Zulekha Farid, Usha Handoo, Raju Bajgal and Vijay Malla. Earlier, welcome address was presented by ML Dogra, Chairman. VK Magotra, MD of BLSKS, general secretary MC Kotwal, secretary, Hem Raj, KK Joshi, Raj Kumar Laknotra, Deepak, Rohan, Tilak Raj, Neelam, Kamli, Lalita, Gauri Lal besides many others were present on the occasion.
