Tribute to a Legend

The Central Govt Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Jammu is saddened by the demise of its oldest surviving member, Padmashree Chander Prakash Vohra, former DG, GSI in USA on 19 Feb. A legend of in the fields of Geological Survey & Mountaineering, Vohra’s demise is not only a loss to CGPWA, GSI & Mountaineering, but of the nation. He made India proud with his daring successful expeditions to Everest in May,1965 and later to the first Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica & later to Gangotri in 1981-82 as Dy leader. He was recipient of Arjuna Award, National Mineral Award & Padmashree. He was one of members of the Everest Expedition team who were invited by the PM Modi on Golden Jubilee on 20 May 2015. After shifting to Chandigarh, he migrated to USA where both sons were living.  We pray for eternal peace to the noble soul.
