JAMMU, Mar 17: Brahmin United Federation (BUF) has strongly pleaded for ending caste based reservations and has demanded reservations be provided to all sections of society on economic basis.
The demand was made at a Sammelan of Brahmins United Federation held at Ghagwal in Hiranagar tehsil today. The meeting stressed the community to protect the interests of Brahmins which included ending of caste based reservations.
The speakers in the Sammelan contended that reservations on the basis of caste, leads to social tensions and disorder. It divides societies and is against the principle of social equality and equality before the law.
The speakers appealed to all the political parties to extend their support to the demand for doing way with the caste based reservations.
The Sammelan which was held under the chairmanship of Inderjit Khajuria, president of the Federation was attended by community members from Kathua and Samba districts. Sant Subash Shastri a renowned religious preacher gave his blessings to the community. The Sammelan started with reciting of Vedic hymns.
The proceedings were conducted by Diwan Khajuria. A resolution was also passed on the occasion demanding de-reservation of Hiranagar Constituency reserved since 1996.
The Federation warned that in case the demand made by the resolution moved by 13 Sarpanchs of Hiranagar was not conceded the BUF will launch agitation.
