JAMMU, May 14: A day long protest by the students for amenities on the campus forced the Jammu University authorities to shift two examination centres from the Central Library, in front of which the demonstration was being held.
The protesting students were demanding 24-hour access to library, free WiFi on the campus, transportation facility from Jammu University to the old campus and increase in the hostel capacity.
Led by Parteek Raina, under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front, the agitating students assembled in front of the Central Library this morning and started raising slogans in support of their demands.
The protesting students blocked entry-exit points of the library and did not allow even the candidates who had reached there for appearing in the B Sc Nursing examination, centres for which were established on top floor of the library.
Even as Dean Students Welfare of JU and other officers personally reached the spot and sought to pacify the agitating students, the protest demonstration continued. It forced the university authorities to shift the exam centres to the JU Law School and other locations.
The students continued protesting till 4 pm and dispersed later on. They alleged that despite repeated reminders, the university authorities have failed to take any positive action on their long pending demands.
