International Women’s Day celebrated

JAMMU, Mar 8:  International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm as a number of organizations organized impressive functions in this regard, here today.
Women Development Corporation organised a grand function at Women’s Degree College, Parade. Aimed at highlighting the issues relating to women, the programme also focussed on discussing challenges to women empowerment.    Secretary Social Welfare Department, M S Rather, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that such occasions provide us an opportunity to introspect and further our policies and programmes towards women emancipation.  Managing Director, Nahida Soz also spoke on the occasion.
The WDC displayed stalls exhibiting the products prepared by the beneficiaries while SHG members and college students presented cultural programme.
The State Social Welfare Board celebrated the day by organizing a function wherein Chief Information Commissioner G R Sofi was the chief guest. Chairperson, State Social Welfare Board, Khem Lata Wakhloo, besides IG Police CD HG SDRF, T  Phunsog, Prof   Ved Ghai and  Prof  Rita Jatinder also graced the occasion.
The speakers highlighted  achievements of women in different fields and also pondered  over multi-pronged strategies envisaging women’s social, economical, cultural and political emancipation.  On the occasion, a skit on the topic of “Ladki Tou Wardhaan Hai- Doo Gharoun Ki Shaan Hai” was also presented by Women Welfare Association, Jammu.
J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages hosted an all-women composite musical programme ‘Tumhare Liye’ at the K L Saigal Hall of the Academy here. An all-women composite mushaira, Bazm e Shairaat, was also held at the Academy office in Srinagar.
The artists sang different numbers in Hindi, Dogri, Urdu, Kashmiri, Kishtwari, Gojri, Pahari and Punjabi.
Prof. Ved Ghai presided over the function while Dr  Rita Jitendra was the chief guest. Among others present on the occasion were Prof  Nilambar Dev Shrma, N  D  Jamwal and a number of writers and artists. Meetali Gupta anchored the programme.
At the Srinagar office of the Academy, about two dozen poetesses recited their poems.
Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir observed the International Women’s Day at its Headquarter.  Members of traders federation/ civil societies, human rights activists, Branch Managers and Staff members of State Bank of India and Vijaya Bank, Kachi Chawni Branch and the staff members IRCS and Child line Jammu attended the function. The day was observed in an unconventional manner and unlike the usual seminars and symposia, participants were seated facing one another and the programme was conducted in discussion mode. Function was inaugurated by the General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society  Roma Wani who  appealed all members of the society to work unitedly for the upliftment of women.
To mark the Day, Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu in collaboration with Support NGO, Jammu organized a free medical checkup  camp under the supervision of its Secretary R C  Puri.
On the Day, Jammu Police organized an employer-employee meet of women Police hundreds of lady Police personnel working in the different units of District Police Jammu  attended the meet and shared their views and experiences. They were made aware about the Vishakha guidelines issued by Supreme Court of India.
The meet was organized  under the chairmanship of Randheer Singh, SP Hqrs. Jammu.
Sacred Heart College of Education Paloura, Jammu celebrated women’s day with great favour, in its premises. On the occasion,  Rangoli competition was organized.
On the occasion of  Women’s Day, an awareness programme was organized by SP Railway, Shiv Kumar Sharma, at GRP  Lines Jammu. The participants were made aware of the measures for the safety and security of women.
BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) celebrated the Women’s Day by organizing a function  under the aegis of its president Sweety Raina.  All ladies residing in BSF campus, Frontier Hq Jammu, participated in the programme.
On the occasion of Women’s Day, a week long programme by Air Force  Wives Welfare Association  concluded today wherein AFWWA Jammu president Mamta Patange was the chief guest.
CRPF Bantalab celebrated the Day by organizing a programme wherein Arunima Sinha, wife of Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu, was the chief guest.
International Women’s day  was celebrated by Catholic Social Service Society at Matri Bhavan, Smailpur. The programme began with a massive rally of more than 1000 women  from Kala gate, Bari Brahmana. It  was followed by a  cultural function. Rehana Batul,  Additional Commissioner, Jammu and  Ankur Mahajan,  Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, were  the guest of honor on the occasion.
VLCC  launched a unique nationwide ‘You are a Star’ campaign to mark International Women’s Day,  to recognize the vital role played by women in all aspects of our lives.
As part of the month-long campaign, women customers visiting any VLCC outlet on March 8 were made entitled to special discounts on a whole range of beauty treatments, besides being eligible for special gifts and free services.
To commemorate the Day, a national exhibition of Paintings by women painters was  organized by J&K Centre for Creative Arts, Jammu. It was inaugurated by  Khem Lata Wakhlu,  Chairperson, J&K Social Welfare Board at Viraj Art Gallery, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.  This exhibition is dedicated in the memory of late  Gobind Kaur, a well known sculptor and print maker of the state and a student of  late Vidya Ratan Khajuria.
Mahila Adhikar Sangthan celebrated  the day as commitment day for the cause of women. The function in this connection was presided over Anu Dogra, Chairman,Indian Public School, Kathua while  DC  Kathua Jatinder Singh was the chief guest.
In connection with celebration of International Women’s Day, District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bhaderwah, organized an awareness camp on the topic “Rights of Women”. Women drawn from different walks of society participated in the camp. The keynote address on the occasion was delivered by  Girja Shavan, Munsiff Bhaderwah and  Manju Sharma Advocate.
Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu organized a seminar, which was  followed by Rally on the Day. Prof  G M Bhat, Rector Bhaderwah Campus, conveyed the audience the importance of women in the society as whole and said no country can develop and sustain if women in these countries are not respected, empowered and emancipated.
Shivalik Collegae of Education Udhampur  celebrates the Day by organizing a Women Empowerment Festival in the College premises. Senior citizens, members of social organizations participated in the festival, wherein DC Udhampur Yasha Mudgal was the chief guest.
In Reasi, special rallies were organised by volunteers and women groups with appeal for celebrating the World Women Day as electoral participation day and to commit for greater participation in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the district.
Rallies were taken out in Mahore, Arnas and Reasi. More than 3000 women and volunteers from various organizations participated in these rallies.
JNYC Rajouri is celebrating Women Day  by organizing a six- day Leadership Development Training Programme for Women under Nai Roshani.
IECS Polytechnic celebrates International Women’s Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. A large number of staff members and students spoke on various topics related to problems being faced by women in India and other parts of the world. Some cultural events and songs devoted to women were also presented.
State Committee of CITU observed the International Working Women Day in its office Chamber, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu under the chairmanship of Sunita Bhagar. A large number of working women working in different sectors like ASHA, Anganwari and Mid day Meal etc  participated in the programme.
NGO – ‘Jiyo aur Jeene Do’ organized a programme in Tilak Nagar , Udhampur in which a number of women from various areas participated. The programme included awareness of women regarding their rights.
Sant Mela Singh College of Education, Digiana celebrated the Day by organizing an easy writing competition on the topic “ Equality for women is progress for all “  and Rangoli competition.
NSS Unit of Luthra College of Education organized a function wherein  students deliberated on different issues like Domestic Violence, Female foeticide and Women Empowerment etc. Other attractions of the programme were Poems, Songs and Gazals.
NSS Club of Sai Shyam College of Education Ghou-Manhasan, Jammu celebrated the National Women’s Day at village Ghou-Manhasan. All  women living in and around the village participated in the programme wherein the NSS volunteers also presented a group song, which was followed by an interactive session.
On the Day,  Handa College Education organized a rally to generate awareness among the masses. The students of Tiny Tots Hr Sec School and Handa College of Education took part in the rally.
Government College of Engineering and Technology, Galaxy College of Education, Taawish College of Education, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Satwari and other educational institutions also celebrated  the International Women Day by organizing impressive functions.
A special function was organized  to celebrate the Women’s Day by Children’s Welfare Society. Laxmi Dutta, president of Women’s wing National Conference Jammu province presided over the function. On the occasion, stationery items were distributed among the needy girl children.
The Day was celebrated at Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur, Bantalab (Jammu) with great pomp and gaiety. The students of the College presented colourful bonanza of cultural items including rangoli making, musical chair, songs, chit game and garland making.
Women’s Day was also celebrated with great zeal by MC Khalsa College of Education, where a detailed and informative presentation was given by Principal of the College Dr Madhu Singh.
NSS Unit of KCS College of Education (Women) organized a students’ rally in connection with the celebrations of International Women’s Day, in which the students of BEd, MEd and Polytechnic participated.
To mark Women’s Day, NSS and Cultural unit of Kawa College of Education organized a symposium on the topic “Upliftment of women in rural areas” in the College premises.
New Millenium National College of Education, Sarore (Jammu) organized a debate competition on the topic “Role of women to built a mighty nation” on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Students from various colleges participated in the competition and expressed their views. Later a rally was also taken out through the village Sarore by NSS unit of the College.
Trikuta Degree College, Nardani (Raipur), celebrated International Women’s Day in an interactive session organized by the girl students and women staff.
To mark the Women’s Day, DRS Kids distributed certificates of appreciation to ladies from the society who presented their views in written regarding the “status of women’.
Indian Red Cross society, Jammu, organized a function in connection with International Women’s Day in the premises of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi. The principal of the Institute, Shashi Prabha Thapa, threw light on the importance of the Day. Executive Secretary, Red Cross Society, Jammu, Suresh Sharma in his speech focused on the history of Indian Red Cross Society and its contribution towards society. A short play on women empowerment by “Ek Saath Rang Mandal” was also presented on the occasion by Vijay Mallah and his team.
Rotary Club, Jammu Tawi, honoured three ladies namely Dr Bella Mahajan, Prof and Head GMC Jammu, Pooja Malhotra, eminent educationist and SP Anita Sharma. Prof Chaman Lal Gupta was the chief guest on occasion while Prof I A Amal, VC Baba Ghulam Badhasha University Rajouri was the guest of honour.
