Retd RTC employees demand probe into scam

SRINAGAR, Mar 1: The retired employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) today demanded investigations into the multi-crore scam in the Corporation.
It may be mentioned here that a major scam surfaced in the RTC wherein the Corporation has favoured a contractor by reimbursing crores of rupees as commission to him.
M/S Qureshi Transport Company was allotted a contract by the JKRTC in September 2020 for supply of trucks and buses to the Corporation for which it was charged commission on end freight rate.
Later the contractor approached the High Court in 2022 which appointed an arbitrator to resolve the issue. Instead of contesting the case the RTC agreed to charge the contractor basic freight rate. This has led to the crores of rupees loss to the Corporation.
The employees in a statement alleged that the present management of the RTC is working against the interests of the Corporation. “All such tenders floated and contracts allotted need thorough investigation,” the employees said.
The employees further said that the retired employees have not been paid retiral benefits as the Corporation is facing severe financial crunch on one hand and on the other, they are reimbursing commission to the contractor.
“We the retired employees of JKRTC who are running from pillar to post to the get their retrial benefits such as gratuity and COLA arrears for the last so many years request the Government to kindly initiate high level enquiry in to this matter against the officers at the helm of affairs,” they said .
“It is also in place to mention here that no DA has been released in favour of the Corporation employees since April 2019 on the pretext of paucity of funds but it is astonishing that how a huge amount which is totally undue has been sanctioned in favour of the contractor by MD JKRTC that too when he can appoint an arbitrator only for an amount not exceeding Rs 25,000 as per section 60 of RTC Act, delegation of powers 1979,” the employees added.
