Strive for drug free Doda: DDC

DODA, Feb 15: In a view to establish a drug de-addiction centre in Doda, District Development Commissioner Doda Mubarak Singh today convened a meeting with NGOs and officials of Health Department of the district.
CPO Doda Y. Katoch, CMO Doda, representatives of Chenab Welfare and Educational Trust and Koshish Foundation among the others who attended the meeting.
DDC underscored the need to create an awareness among the young generation about the ill effects of drugs and other intoxicants for their better physical and mental health. He stressed upon the fact that drug addiction should not be taken as a stigma, but it should be taken as an illness.
He also said that, apart from Therapeutic Interventions there is need of family counselling, group counselling, psycho- education and follow up. In this regard, DDC enjoined upon the NGOs to play a key role in drug de-addiction to free the society from this menace.
Regarding the need for more specialists of de-addiction, DDC directed health officials to take up the matter with the concerned authorities. He also directed them to take necessary steps for establishment of de-addiction centre at Doda where privacy of the addicted should be given priority.
In order to bring awareness about the bad consequences of drug addiction among the school children , he directed the officials of Education Department to focus on moral education and lectures regarding drug addiction in morning assembliesin schools. NGOs can also send their volunteers to deliver lectures on this topic in different schools across the district.
