Youths who turned 18 on Jan 1 eligible for registration as voters

JAMMU, Feb 5: In what is being described as major initiative of the Election Commission of India Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Umang Narula has ordered that the youths, who have attained the age of 18 years on January 1, 2014 but couldn’t enroll themselves as voters during summary revision, can do so by filling Form No. 6 before Election Returning Officers (ERO) or AEROs till 10 days of filing of nomination papers.
The Election Commission of India had kept January 1, 2014 as cutoff date for 18 years to register the new voters during summary revision.
However, Mr Narula said the youth, who had turned 18 on January 1, 2014 but hadn’t enrolled themselves as voters, could register themselves before EROs or AEROs even 10 days before filing of the nomination papers for Lok Sabha elections.
However, the youths, who had turned or would be turning 18 years after January 1, 2014, can’t enroll themselves as voters at this stage, Mr Narula said.
