JALANDHAR: BSF troops today successfully thwarted the attempt of Pakistani smugglers to sneak contrabands through the Line of Control in BOP Daoke area in Amritsar sector. The Pakistani smugglers opened fire on BSF troops but were retaliated upon by the BSF jawans as a result of which the smugglers fled towards the Pakistani territory taking advantage of foggy weather.
A BSF spokesman said the alert troops during intense patrolling observed some suspicious movement of smugglers near the border fence and challenged them to stop in the area of the BoP Daoke along the international border. But instead of paying heeds to the warning of the troops, they continued with their ill-intention of transferring contraband in plastic pipes in the border fence.
The troops sensing the mis-adventure of the smugglers, fired six rounds following which the smugglers fled towards the Pakistani territory taking advantage of dense fog. During search of the area, 17 packets of contraband, two pistols, one pistol magazine, eight rounds were recovered, the spokesman added.
Value of the contraband seized is said to be Rs 85 crore in the international market.
